JEST AWORKIN IN THE BLUE

W.M. Clintonville Lodge 197 – (1939)

JEST AWORKIN IN THE BLUE

I’m a simple
minded feller, don’t go in fer fuss ner frill,
And lifes ordinary pleasures, seem fer me to fill the bill,

Don’t seem to want to go on up,as I spose I ought ter do,

So I get my satisfaction, jest aworkin in the Blue.

Fer the
fellers that may like it,I presume its fine ter be,

A Noble or a belted Knight,in the Commandery,

But the Chapter and Consistory, the Shrine all foller thru

And bank on gents like you an me,aworkin in the Blue.

When you
come out Monday evenings, with the brothers all around,

Seems the Blue Lodge Is the Masons,is the sorta fertile ground

where the other orders take their roots, and flourish as they do,

cause we cultivate the garden plot,by workin in the Blue.

Take the
fellers you look up to,cause they’ve made their mark in life,

Who’ve bucked along and kept their heads,no matter what the strife,

Walter Olen,Charley Bennett,Doctor Miller are a few

and every one takes interest, cause we’re workin in the Blue

Then there’s
Dave,he’s been the Treasure for nigh on to forty years,

He’s one of them their Templars, and I guess a Shriner too,

But your pretty apt to see him, when we’re working in the Blue.

And Frank,
he’s taken all the work, and learned it to by heart,

Never musses up a lecture when he stands beside the chart,

And in the East when there’s a third,he thrills you thru and thru,

When he calls the craft to labor,as were workin in the Blue.

Though you’ve heard the same old lectures, for a thousand times or more,

Seems to me there’s allus somthin, that a fellow’s missed before,

All ter once you learn a lesson, that’s completely fresh and new,

Jest a sittin on the sidelines, when they’re workin in the Blue.

If by chance
I make the riffle,in that Lodge beyond the grave,

Don’t give me no fancy trappins,no gilt wings to flap and wave,

I’ll take some friendly fellers, honest travelers tried and true,

and be jest a Master Mason, workin up in the Blue.
